What do fun science and technology activities, creative hands-on projects and study spaces have in common?
They are all offered to school students and all are available at Redland City Libraries.
After-school program
STEAM zone – the after-school program for children six to 12 years – highlights Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths projects that engage creative thinking.
The STEAM sessions are held weekly during school terms from 3.30–4.30pm on:
- Tuesday at Victoria Point Library
- Wednesday at Capalaba Library and
- Thursday at Cleveland Library.
Upcoming projects include magic torches, crazy catapults, DIY paper cup games, stick people battles, loom bookmarks, timed LEGO challenges, DIY marionettes, flapping butterflies, decoders and a Makedo marble run.

Teen programs
Teen Makerspace takeover
Teenagers from 13 to 17 years have a special opportunity to take over the Makerspace at Cleveland Library once a month to learn new skills in a safe, inclusive and friendly environment.
They can access equipment to explore 3D printing, Cricut design, sewing, embroidery, laser cutting and more.
Participants can work on their own projects or team up with friends.
No experience is needed and some materials will be provided to get them started.
The Teen Makerspace takeover sessions are held once a month on a Wednesday from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Teen art club
Capalaba Library offers a free drop-in program every fortnight for teens aged 13 to 17 to try out a variety of artistic mediums.
A different art activity is offered each one-hour session – from collages, still-life sketching to expressive portraiture and watercolours.

Study spaces
Students of all ages are welcome to use study spaces available at Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point libraries.
Each library offers a range of individual spaces, small tables and large tables for groups – most with access to power points.
Capalaba Library has an enclosed two-person study pod which can be reserved via the Council’s online portal.
Cleveland and Victoria Point Libraries also have cafe-style study spaces where you can order a coffee and enjoy a snack while you study.
Students working on a group project can reserve small and large meeting rooms at no cost. Students must be over the age of 16 and be library members to book a meeting room.
Printing, photocopying, internet and computer services
Students can also access free Wi-Fi and reserve a computer at all Redland City libraries, and use printers and photocopiers, for a cost.
Free scanning is available at Capalaba, Cleveland, Victoria Point and Russell Island libraries.

Library membership is free and provides access to a range of services and programs including books, audio books, DVDs and magazines alongside digital collections including eBooks, language learning and research resources.
